More than 700 pediatric surgery professionals and guests joined us in
Orlando in May as the pediatric surgery community came together to
explore the latest techniques, advances, trends and equipment for
pediatric surgery. New educational sessions and numerous networking
opportunities allowed colleagues from around the nation and beyond to
interact and explore what's new. Education Day highlights included:
- Evidence-Based Medicine in Pediatric Surgery
- Updates on Clinical Trials
- International Collaborations in Pediatric Surgery
NEW- COG Oncology Education Session - This new
cancer session consisted of interactive presentations that provided
practical updates on surgical guidelines, outcomes and current protocols
for pediatric solid tumors. Rotating topics annually, this
year’s session focused on current therapy for
renal and liver tumors, with an emphasis on surgical management and
treatment algorithms.
Pediatric Surgery Case Debates and Controversies -
Back by popular demand, this program session with Mac Harmon
included the presentation of a number of pediatric general surgery cases
that have some degree of controversy in their evaluation and management.
The audience was able to participate in the session by answering
questions embedded throughout the case presentations via an interactive
audience response system (ARS) that provided instant group
feedback. In addition, the audience had the opportunity to
openly discuss the cases.
NEW! APSA/IPEG Advanced Neonatal Endoscopic
Techniques- This new workshop featured minimally invasive
surgical training, as well as an off-site demonstration. The session
sold out quickly and had a wait list, so look for future session like
this.
New Technology Session - The new technology
session featured abstracts on new and innovative techniques and
procedures that are not yet mainstream. These abstracts, selected for
their novel content, provided members with a snapshot of the cutting
edge developments being pursued in the field.
Attendees also enjoyed more free time built into the schedule to
enjoy with their families at this wonderful resort!
